Bringing Pocklington’s Past to Life: Thunk-It Theatre’s 25/5
Project Lights Up Local Heritage!
Get ready for a journey into the heart of Pocklington’s past - reimagined, reawakened, and retold through creativity, community, and collaboration. Check out how you can get involved below!
Introducing the 25/5 Project, a partnership between Thunk-It Theatre CIC, Burnby Hall Gardens, and Pocklington Arts Centre that’s turning local history into a living, breathing celebration.
25/5 is a bold, cross-community initiative uniting local voices, young people, seasoned creatives, and often-overlooked stories - all to shine a new light on Pocklington’s rich, and sometimes hidden, past.
Where Did The Project Come From?
The project gets its name from some pretty big birthdays:
25 years of Pocklington Arts Centre
10 years of Burnby Hall Gardens’ Heritage Volunteers
5 years of Thunk-It Theatre CIC
But this isn’t just about marking time. It’s about making it matter, by digging into the archives, rediscovering untold tales, and transforming them into original, moving performances that stir hearts and spark conversations.
One powerful focus of the 25/5 Project is the life of Katharine Stewart, a key figure from Burnby Hall Gardens whose story has too long remained in the shadows. Thanks to this project, Katharine’s legacy is finally being brought into the spotlight.
Who's Involved?
This project is powered by a dazzling mix of local energy:
Thunk-It Youth Theatre, with groups for ages 5-18
Wolds Wonders, a performing group for adults with learning disabilities
Local choirs
Arts and crafts groups and individuals
Burnby Hall Heritage Volunteers
And a whole host of community members with a passion for history, storytelling, and connection
Together, these groups are transforming historical research into theatre, music, crafts, and storytelling that will culminate in live performances and public events in 2026. Together, we will be bringing forgotten voices to life in the most unexpected and engaging ways.
“Through this project, we’re not just retelling history - we’re celebrating it.” - Thunk-It Theatre CIC
