The 25/5 Project!
A cross-community heritage project inspired by the history of Burnby Hall Gardens in Pocklington!

What is 25/5?
The 25/5 Project is a creative celebration of three big milestones:

-
Thunk-It Theatre's 5th year of working
-
The Burnby Hall Gardens Heritage Volunteers’ 10th anniversary
-
Pocklington Arts Centre’s 25th birthday

Three big milestones - one brilliant celebration!

At its heart is the untold story of Katharine Stewart, the woman who funded, cared for, and gifted Burnby Hall Gardens to the town along with her husband, Major Percy Stewart.

Running over International Women’s Weekend 2026, the project brings together storytelling, creativity, and community through heritage shows, a recycled water lily display, and inspiring talks from heritage volunteers.

Over the past year, the 25/5 Project has been about people, place, and the stories that sit between them. Through chats, performances, shared moments, and unexpected encounters, hundreds of community members helped bring local heritage to life, not as something tucked away in the past, but as something lively, generous, and carried every day by the people who call this place home. The project reminded us that heritage is at its best when it is listened to, laughed over, shared, and made together.

We are so grateful to have been supported by our funders for the '25/5' project, including The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Williams Family Fund, The David Ford Trust, Friends of the Pocklington Arts Centre, I AM Fund, and Do It For East Yorkshire.

We have also been so lucky to work with an amazing group of creatives, whom you can find more about here!
