Five years mark a significant milestone for any organisation, and for Thunk-It, it has been a journey full of growth, creativity, and community. As we wrap up our fifth year celebrations, it felt like the perfect moment to refresh our identity and reflect on what Thunk-It truly means. This post shares the story behind our new logo, the voices that shaped it, and the values that continue to drive us forward.

Consultation with our Communities

Thunk-It started with a simple idea - to create a space where young people could explore their creativity, share ideas, and feel a sense of belonging. Our very first group, the Pocklington Youth Theatre, played a crucial role in shaping the early days of Thunk-It. Their energy and enthusiasm laid the foundation for what has become a thriving community of youth theatres.

Each youth theatre group brings its own unique personality and spark. Over the years, these groups have grown alongside Thunk-It, influencing our programs, culture, and vision. Celebrating five years means honouring these groups and the young people who have made Thunk-It what it is today.

After five years of growth and change, it was clear that our logo needed to reflect who we are now. The original design served us well, but it didn’t fully capture the spirit, values, and experiences of the young people involved.

Instead of redesigning in isolation, we invited the Pocklington Youth Theatre group back into the process. This decision was about more than just design; it was about coming full circle and involving the people who helped build Thunk-It from the ground up.

What does Thunk-It mean to you?

We asked a simple question - what does Thunk-It mean to you? This is what our young people had to say:

  • Bright ideas and creativity

Young people described Thunk-It as a place full of imagination and problem-solving. They talked about moments when something suddenly clicks, when a creative risk pays off, or when a new idea lights up the room.

  • Care and connection

The sessions are filled with kindness, encouragement, and laughter. For many, Thunk-It is a place where they feel supported and valued, a community where they belong.

  • Equality and respect

One young person said, “Thunk-It makes me feel equal.” This simple statement captured the essence of what we strive for: a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and respected.

These insights became the foundation for our new logo.

The Symbols Behind the New Logo

Our new logo combines three powerful symbols, each representing a core part of the Thunk-It experience:

  • The Lightbulb

This symbolises the bright ideas that fill our sessions. It represents imagination, problem-solving, and those moments of inspiration that make creativity so exciting.

  • The Heart

The heart stands for the care and kindness that define our community. It reflects the laughter, encouragement, and genuine connections that happen every week.

  • The Equals Sign

Seen in the base of the lightbulb, this was inspired by the words of a young participant - 'Thunk-It makes me feel equal'. This symbol reminds us that Thunk-It is a place where everyone is valued equally.

Together, these symbols tell a story of creativity, care, and equality that defines Thunk-It.

What This Means for the Future of Thunk-It

As we move forward, the new logo will guide us in staying true to our mission. It will inspire us to continue building a community where every young person feels empowered to express themselves and take creative risks.

We will keep listening to the voices of our youth theatres, ensuring that Thunk-It remains a place of growth, connection, and respect. The logo is a visual reminder of the impact we can have when we work together and celebrate what makes each of us unique.

The journey to our new logo has been a meaningful reflection of five years of Thunk-It. It captures the bright ideas, the care, and the equality that define our community.

Whether you are part of a youth theatre, a supporter, or simply curious about our work, thank you for being part of the thunky fun!
